Our History

Dickson Funeral Home began business as Dickson Furniture and Undertaking Company in 1924. Sighting a need for an additional furniture and undertaking company, fourteen men came together to form a new company that would be incorporated as the Dickson Furniture and Undertaking Company. This would be the third such establishment in Dickson County.

The original founders of the company were Elmer Buckner, A.C. Hughes, Verlie Deason, J.A. Pope, Mark Tidwell, Joe Murray, John R. Baker, C.I. Smith, M.E. Anderson, George Davidson, Slayden Hunt, Tom Freeman, H.T.V.Miller, and Paul Drye. The first building was located on Main Street in downtown Dickson.

In December of 1938, the Dr. E.W. Ridings home at 209 East College Street was purchased and remodeled to become the new location. In 1952, the business was split into two separate businesses. H. Clyde Fussell became the owner of Dickson Furniture Company and Elmer Buckner became the owner of Dickson Funeral Home. The business has continued to operate at this same location, serving the needs of Dickson and surrounding counties, for more than eighty-five years. Major renovations to Dickson Funeral Home were completed in 1989-90.

Dickson Funeral Home also operates satellite chapels in Fairview (Williamson County) and White Bluff (Dickson County). Its three locations serve citizens in Dickson, Williamson, Hickman, Humphreys, Cheatham, Houston, Davidson, and Montgomery counties in Middle Tennessee.

"Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead, and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land and their loyalty to high ideals." - William Gladstone
