Roy Philip Buckner

Roy Philip Buckner, 72, of Mt. Sion Community, passed away peacefully December 28,2020, at home. Born March 13, 1948, in Clarksville, Tennessee the son of Roy Brake and Virginia Weems Buckner, his siblings are Jeanette (Gray) Yates, and Jerry (Bonnie Buckner. A graduate of Austin Peay State University, he managed the Dickson Farmers Coop and other Cooperatives for 36 1/2 years. Loving and his fellow man, Phil was awarded in 2008 Tennessee Farmers Cooperative highest individual honor, The James B. Walker Cooperative Spirit Award. Phil loved Dickson County and proudly served on the Dickson Co. School Board for 20 years and had 43 years of perfect attendance in the Dickson Civitan Club. Other than 6 years at other Methodist Churches he was a life-long member of Mt Zion United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School for 25 years. Along with the scholastic needs of Dickson County's children, Philip was concerned with their spiritual needs. He served on the board of the Greater Clarksville Chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship and as "Mr. Phil" taught in the Vanleer Good News Club for 10 years. In his "spare time, Phil served on the Board of Directors for Tri-Star Horizon Medical Center, Dickson County's Ag Committee, 5 Rivers RC&D, Dickson Co. Farmers Market, coached Dixie Youth Baseball for 25 years, was founding member of the Dickson Co. Birdhunters Club, and a member of Gideons International Dickson Camp. Phil is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sandra Herndon Buckner, 3 children: Chris (Angela), Ben (Christine), and Sam (Amanda), 9 Grandchildren: Zeke, Emily, Elijah, Brett, Grabe, Philip, Ryan, Grace, & Andrew Buckner. Visitation for Mr. Buckner will be Tuesday December, 29th from 1:30 - 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday the 30th, 2020 from 1:00 PM until time of services. Funeral services will be Wednesday 30,2020 from the Dickson Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 3:00 PM, with interment in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
