Louis "Gene" Eugene Cathey

Louis "Gene" Eugene Cathey, 86 years of age, of Craggie Hope, TN, passed away on July 23, 2024, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. 

Gene was born March 19, 1938, in Craggie Hope, TN, to the late, Robert Dewitt Cathey and Louise Olds. 

Gene lived a life filled with simple pleasures and profound love for his family. A man known for his dedication to his work in construction as a tile setter and his passion for farming. Gene's career spanning construction work and farming reflected his strong work ethic and commitment for his loved ones. Outside of work, Gene found joy in the simplicities of life. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His sense of humor brightened the room, his love warmed hearts, and his kindness touched many lives. A true family man in every sense of the word, Gene's old-fashioned values shone through in all that he did. He had a deep passion for fishing and camping. Sports also held a special place in Gene's heart, with football and baseball capturing his enthusiasm. Above all, watching the Atlanta Braves play brought him immense joy and excitement.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, James Cathey, Timothy Cathey, and Mickey Jo "Bo" Cathey.  Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Mary "Evelyn" Cathey; children, Judy Deal (Gerald), Carmen "Bubba" Cathey (Norma), Beckey Kerr, Bobby Cathey, and Elsie "Jo" Shaw; grandchildren, Travis (Kristin) Deal, Tiffany (Brandon) Patrick, Michael Hargrove, Tonya (Randall) Williams, Jared (Jennifer) Cathey, Gerald Shaw; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Deal, Tyler, Taylen, and Kinsley Williams and Jameson Cathey; sibings, June Estes, Ronnie Cathey, Patricia Hall, Maxine (Jimmy) Deal, and Burma "Kay" Carr.

Visitation with the family will be at Craggie Hope United Methodist Church,1415 Craggie Hope Rd, Kingston Springs, on July 27, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM; followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 PM. Bro. Mike Swaw and Rev. Valerie James will be officiating. Interment will follow in Young Cemetery.
