George Edward Taylor Sr.

December 31, 1945 — July 21, 2022

George Edward Taylor, age 76, peacefully transitioned from this life on July 21, 2022, at the Waters of Cheatham Nursing Center in Ashland City, TN. He was born in Nashville, TN on December 31, 1945, to Ms. Jessie Mae Chancellor. Lucius and Fannie Mae Taylor adopted him after his mother's health began to fail. Educated in the Metro Nashville Public Schools System, George attended Napier Elementary School and Cameron School. A showman, he enjoyed imitating singer Jackie Wilson (deceased), songwriting, and singing. George toured as a DJ with the radio legend Clarence (Gilly Baby) Kilcrease (deceased). His favorite pastime was playing airplane video games. A charismatic person with a sense of humor, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed sharing his life experiences, discussing history, race relations, and world events, but the joy of his life was his family, whom he enjoyed spending time with. In his quest for religion, he discovered Islam. After high school, he married Cheryl R. Lee. Three children were born into this union Deidre' (Larry) Donaldson (U.S. Army) of Pooler, GA, Sophia Taylor, and Shaun (Laverne) Taylor of Southaven, MS. George served honorably as a military police officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his divorce, he married and was later divorced from Mary B. Martin. Three children were born from their union, Angelia Taylor, George (Amber) Taylor Jr., Knoxville, TN, and Curtis Taylor. Mary brought her sons Donnel and William Martin into the marriage. Dedicated to service, George attained the rank of Private First Class during his second enlistment of more than two years in the U.S. Army as a military correctional specialist. Upon discharge from the service, he worked as a property manager, a security guard for Tennessee State University, a driver for an auction company, and various other jobs. George is preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Mae Chancellor, adoptive parents, Lucius and Fannie Mae Taylor, brothers Henry Chancellor and Robert Tate (U.S. Army), and grandson Georgio Gray. He leaves to cherish his memory his children and grandchildren: Ahjah Taylor, Tiniko Taylor, Deangelo Taylor, D’Ondra Donaldson, DaNeisha Donaldson, and Curstin Taylor, great-grandchildren along with numerous other family members and friends. The family is grateful to everyone for their thoughts, prayers, phone calls, kindness, and support. Special thanks to Ben Anderson and the staff and nurses of the Waters of Cheatham Nursing Center and Adoration Hospice for loving, looking out, and caring for our loved one. Burial will be held at the Middle Tennessee Veterans’ Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Ln., Nash, TN 37221, on August 3rd at 1:00 P.M.
