Bettie Katherine Hughes

Bettie Katherine Hughes, age 81, of Fairview, TN, gained her angel wings on Friday, January 15, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Bettie cleaned houses for many years, but her passion for 34 years (retiring in 2008), was driving a school bus for Williamson County Schools. She was one of the first female bus drivers in Williamson County, and was proud to say she drove 3 generations of Fairview families. Bettie loved dancing and music, especially blue grass and even played guitar and sang in a country band. One of her favorite past times was cheering on the UT Vols. She passionately loved the Lady Vols and Pat Summit. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon, and Ruth (Cunningham) Buttrey, brother, Gary Buttrey, and nephews, Tim and Kevin Huckaby. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her daughter, Renee (Petey) Claiborne, and son, Marlin Hughes of Fairview, TN., sisters: Stella (Garner) Nash of Fairview, TN., Barbara (Paul) Vaughn of Marion, KY., and Reta (Loyd) Nash of Dickson, TN., honorary grandson, Eugene Green of Shelbyville, TN., special friends: Mary Alice Green, Catherine Rennick, Sally Kimble, and Arleta Jenkins, along with many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Those wishing to share their memories of Bettie may join the family for visitation at Dickson Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, from 4:30 PM-8:00 PM and Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. A celebration of her life will begin at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Dickson Funeral Home, with Bro. Fred Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow to Harpeth Hills Cemetery in Nashville, TN.
