Leland Bernie Clayton, Sr., age 81 passed away on Thursday, September 1st at his residence in White Bluff. He was born in Potts Camp, MS on July 29th, 1935 to the late Clarence and Mary Jane Minor Clayton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers Curtis, Rayburn, and Eugene Clayton; and sisters Vernell Ferris, Maxine Cain, Geneva Duresky, and Ezell Wallace. Mr. Clayton served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by B&O Railroad from which he retired in 1970. He is survived by two sons, Darrell Clayton of White Bluff, and Leland “Lee” Clayton (Michelle) of White Bluff; three daughters, Sheryl Boatner (Jeff) of White Bluff, Dana Shepard (Dennis) of Poplar Bluff, MO, Dannette Thompson of Jonesboro, IL; brothers Robert Clayton (Scottie) of Walnut, MS, Purvis Clayton and R.C. Clayton of Ecru, MS; sisters, Dorothy, Cleora Crowell of Dickson, Violet Lessel of Ecru, MS, and Fairleen. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Ryan, Breanna, Danny, Josh, Dylan, Austin, and Jordan Clayton; Jeffrey, Michael, and Kevin Boatner; Chris and Dustin Shepard; Cody Hartwick, Zach Maddox, and Cheyenne Ward; eight great-grandchildren; Cameron, Brayden, Tristan, Elizabeth, Mason, Caleb, Sophia and Kaidyn. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, September 6th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. from the White Bluff Chapel of Dickson Funeral Home, and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a. m. until time of service. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 7th at 12:00 p.m. with grandson Chris Shepard officiating.
